Don Jazzy has activated the Mavin machine once again. The latest name to graduate from the famed academy is Mavin’s new artist CupidSZN. But this reveal feels different. The Four-Year Destiny

Don Jazzy himself shared the origin story, and it’s the definition of perseverance. Four years ago, CupidSZN’s father, believing in his 17-year-old son, slid into Don Jazzy’s DMs. As the Mavin boss admits, “my DM choke die,” and he never saw the message.

But destiny, as it does, found another path. Two years later, CupidSZN (born Stevenson Njoku Anyinachiso) kept developing his craft. He eventually found his way into the Mavin Academy, excelled, and is now, at 21, the label’s new face. It’s a proper lesson in patience and betting on yourself.

The Sacrifice and The Sound

So, who is this new signee? He’s a Port Harcourt kid who, like many, was first inspired by a Juice Wrld video. His first love was Trap. However, his father gave him the advice that shaped his career: “to conquer the world, you would first have to conquer home.” This sparked his pivot to Afrobeats.

The commitment was real. After secondary school, CupidSZN skipped university to pursue music full-time. In a move that speaks volumes about his family’s belief, his entire family relocated from Port Harcourt to Lagos to help him chase the dream. That’s the kind of backing that builds a star, and it clearly worked—even before the signing, he’d independently clocked over 10 million streams.

The MYTH ERA Begins

His debut EP, MYTH ERA, is his first official statement. The title itself—a blend of ‘myth’ and ‘era’—is ambitious. He’s channelling his namesake (Cupid, from Greek mythology) into sensual Afropop.

We’re already hearing the Ozedikus-produced “Palava” is the track to watch, a sweet, sensual tune. But he’s also showing depth, with tracks like “Famous” offering introspection on the journey. It’s this fusion of global trap cool with an authentic Afrobeats core that Mavin is betting big on.

The public is, naturally, already watching. Graduating from the Rema and Ayra Starr school comes with immense pressure. But CupidSZN isn’t an unknown.
