BhadBoi OML Conquers TikTok: The New Guard Wins on TikTok’s Songs of the Summer 2025

The official TikTok's Songs of the Summer 2025 list for Nigeria has landed, and it’s a fascinating snapshot of what's actually moving the culture. It's not the usual suspects. We break down the rise of BhadBoi OML and the noticeable absence of the global titans.

TikTok has just dropped its official list for Nigeria’s TikTok’s Songs of the Summer 2025, and it’s a proper education. You can forget the traditional metrics of radio play or streams. Instead, this is a hard-data snapshot of what the youth were actually creating, dancing to, and obsessing over between June and August. The biggest headline? The old guard was noticeably absent.

In fact, BhadBoi OML secured the top spot with “Wasiu Ayinde.” This is a significant moment, clearly signalling a major shift in the Afrobeats ecosystem.

The Fuji-Pop King

The crowning of “Wasiu Ayinde” provides the real insight here. This isn’t a high-budget international collab. Rather, it’s a masterful blend of contemporary pop sound with deep, traditional Yoruba roots (Fuji), named after the legend K1 De Ultimate. Its dominance proves that cultural specificity and authenticity are winning. The public didn’t just listen; they used it. Consequently, the track became the perfect, repeatable soundbite for countless trends, proving that the new guard understands the platform on an intuitive level.

A Chart of Diversity

The rest of the list confirms this trend. It’s a vibrant mix of sounds that go beyond the mainstream Afrobeats formula. The Amapiano influence, of course, remains undeniable, with “Ngishutheni” (by Goon Flavour, Master KG & Eemoh) landing at #2. But it wasn’t just party anthems. In addition, the list shows a real appetite for soulful, emotionally-driven content. Gospel-inspired tracks like Chella’s “My Darling” and Gaise Baba & Lawrence Oyor’s “No Turning Back II” found massive viral moments, sitting comfortably next to high-energy collabs.

The Absence of the Titans

Now, for the detail everyone is dissecting: Where are the titans? The list is almost entirely devoid of the “Big Three.” Only Davido (with Omah Lay) made the top 10 with “With You.” Meanwhile, Burna Boy and Wizkid are nowhere to be seen.

The public opinion on this is split. For example, some are spinning it as a “fall off,” but that’s a lazy take. This isn’t a reflection of their artistry or global pull. On the contrary, it’s a sign that their strategy has evolved beyond the need for 10-second snippets. They are now targeting arena tours and complex album narratives. They simply don’t build their music for a quick trend; they build it for a global listening audience.

Ultimately, this 2025 list shows that TikTok is now the primary incubator for Nigeria’s next wave. It’s a platform where authenticity and “meme-ability” beat high-budget marketing. The new guard isn’t just joining the conversation; they are the conversation. And this summer, BhadBoi OML was their king.
