Starlight Festival Returns to the Giza Pyramids in 2027 as Egypt’s Scene Heads to ADE

EXIT and P+US sold out Starlight Festival's debut at the Giza pyramids and confirmed a 2027 return, as Cairo's SceneNoise takes Egypt's electronic scene to Amsterdam Dance Event.

Two announcements from Cairo this week point the same way. On 13 October, SceneNoise reported that Starlight Festival will return to the Great Pyramids of Giza on 5–6 November 2027. Two days later, it said it would host panels on Egypt’s and Lebanon’s electronic scenes at Amsterdam Dance Event on 24 October. The panels are part of a wider set of MENA showcases at ADE, which runs from 21 to 25 October.

A sold-out debut at the pyramids

Starlight is a joint venture between Serbia’s EXIT Festival and P+US, the electronic music platform of Egyptian company Venture Lifestyle. Its first edition took place on 9–10 October on a site overlooking the pyramids. EDMTunes and Billboard report that it sold out, with organisers saying fans came from 114 countries. It was the first multi-day, multi-stage electronic festival held at Giza and, according to the organisers, the biggest electronic music event there since Jean-Michel Jarre’s millennium concert in 1999.

Charlotte de Witte made her Egyptian debut at the top of a lineup of more than 60 acts that also included Michael Bibi, Adriatique, Indira Paganotto, Enrico Sangiuliano, Vintage Culture, Pete Tong and WhoMadeWho, alongside regional names such as Jade, Tala and Rolbac. The organisers have not given an official attendance figure, and the reports do not agree. SceneNoise says “hundreds of thousands” came, while a pre-festival listing on Music Festival Wizard expected about 15,000 people a day. Until a verified number is published, “sold out, from 114 countries” is the safest description.

The production team is a story in its own right. Visuals came from multimedia studio Sila Sveta, whose main-stage light show used optical illusions to make the pyramids appear to float above the crowd. For EXIT, which lost the ability to operate in Serbia after publicly supporting student-led protests there, Starlight closed an international touring year and gives the festival a new flagship location.

Egypt and Lebanon at ADE

According to SceneNoise, its ADE panels will look at how electronic music scenes in Egypt and Lebanon “survive, evolve, and build culture despite the odds.” In the same week, the outlet’s Select mix series featured Cairo DJ Sn0tbox, who works in deconstructed club, distorted electronics and warped pop. That kind of experimental underground rarely gets seen alongside large events at heritage sites.

Egypt’s two-tier dance economy

Egypt’s dance-music economy is splitting into two levels. At the top are large, high-production events like Starlight, which can sell the pyramids to international ticket buyers and sponsors. Underneath is a dense network of clubs and DIY events that produces the artists. ADE is where both meet the people who decide international bookings: agents, labels and festival programmers looking for their next acts.

Announcing a 2027 date 13 months ahead, straight after a sold-out debut, signals confidence to sponsors and to international travellers who plan early. Whether the local underground benefits depends on how many Egyptian acts Starlight books in prime slots, and whether the ADE panels lead to European bookings for Cairo DJs.

It is also the second North African expansion story this week, after Morocco’s MOGA Festival announced a Dakar edition. The region’s promoters are building outward in two directions: north to Europe’s industry hubs, and south along the Atlantic coast. For West African promoters, Cairo and Essaouira are becoming peers and possible partners rather than distant markets.
